| Steve Please let ALL of the members of Troop 919’s scouting family that again 919 has shown the true value in Scouting, their support for the family we adopted thru DSS and their assistance with delivery gifts to other families who are less fortunate than us. Because of 919’s association with DSS 6 families were sponsored and we delivered Christmas presents to a total of 34 families. Troop Christmas Party – Our Troop Christmas party and gift exchange is this Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United Methodist Church. We will also distribute popcorn awards on Tuesday.
To participate in the gift exchange, Scouts must bring a wrapped gift. Gifts must be camping, outdoors or Scouting related. Please keep the cost to around $10.
Christmas Package Delivery – Our Christmas package delivery is this Saturday (December 17). We will delivering packages to our family and to Foster Families for the Forsyth County Department of Social Services.
We will meet in the training room at the Vienna Fire Dept at 9 a.m. on Saturday to get our route assignments and then head out with the deliveries.

Leader Training – A reminder that all unit leaders must have completed the BSA training for their registered position when our Troop re-charters with the Old Hickory Council in early 2012. Here are some of the upcoming training sessions to help you fulfill this requirement. As an assistant Scoutmaster, you must complete the Leader Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Skills to be considered trained for the Assistant Scoutmaster position.

INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SKILLS
· January 7, 2012 - Super Saturday (One Day Test-Out Opportunity), Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Winston Salem, NC (8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.). This is scheduled for a full day but you will have the opportunity to “test out” of some of the sessions if you already have the necessary skills.
· February 18-19, 2012 - Location to be announced (possibly Elkin); dates are confirmed.
· March 17 & 31, 2012 - This course will be held over two Saturdays with no overnight camping - Camp Raven Knob

Enjoy Your Holidays – Our Troop meeting, Popcorn Awards and Christmas party is our final meeting for 2011. We will resume our weekly Troop meetings on January 3, 2012 at the Scout Hut.
Snow Camping – Our snow camping trip to West Virginia is January 14-16, 2012. We will have a signup sheet at Tuesday’s meeting. A copy of the permission slip is attached to this e-mail, please bring a signed copy with you when you sign up.
Reminder: You must have attended this past weekend’s Intro to Cold Weather camping trip or have been snow camping with our Troop before to be qualified to attend this trip.
Menu planning for the snow camping trip will be Tuesday, January 10, 2012. All trip attendees are expected to attend the menu planning meeting.

Cold Weather Intro Trip – Our Intro to Cold Weather camping trip is this weekend. Menu planning for the trip will be at Tuesday night’s Troop meeting. If you are going on the trip, it is expected that you will attend the menu planning.
We will meet at the Scout Hut on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and head up to Stone Mountain State Park. We should return around lunch time on Sunday.

The only clothing items for the care givers to date is a sweater for Kathy.
Please make sure you have your wrapped Christmas gift for our adopted family at the Scout Hut by December 13. We will be delivering the gifts on December 17. Please consider including a copy of the gift receipt in the event the family needs to make an exchange.
