Troop 919 Message
OA Elections – Our Troop’s Order of the Arrow elections will be at Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
The following Scouts are eligible to be elected to the OA:
Evan Lowrance
Bryce Wham
Josh Jacobius
Will Hardin
Ben Essex
To be eligible to be considered for the OA election a Scout must be a First Class Scout and have participated in 15 nights of camping, including one long term camp (like summer camp or Philmont) during the past two years.
If your name is not on the list above and you believe you are eligible, contact me before Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
Troop Elections – Our Troop elections will be held at the April 6 Troop meeting.
If you are considering running for a senior Troop Leadership positions (Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Quartermaster, Troop Scribe) you must schedule a Scoutmaster Conference prior to the night of the elections. No election Scoutmaster Conferences will be held on the night of the Troop elections.
We will also be electing Patrol leadership positions.
Council Camporee – Our next camping trip will be at the Old Hickory Council’s Centennial Celebration Camporee at Jomeokee Park in Pinnacle, North Carolina. the weekend of April 30 – May 2.
Sign-Up for this event will be at Tuesday’s Troop meeting. We must submit our registration to the Council by the April 21 deadline.
No Troop Meeting – Schools are closed on Tuesday, March 30. We will NOT have a Troop meeting on March 30.
Summer Camp – Have you signed up for Summer Camp? Do you plan to go to summer camp with the Troop this year?
We must submit our initial summer camp registration by March 30 and to date only five (5) Troop 919 Scouts have signed up and paid their $100 summer camp deposit.

Our Troop will be at beautiful Camp Raven Knob the week of July 18-24, 2010. The cost of summer camp is $225 plus any program fees. Most Scouts at Troop 919 have funds in their Scout Accounts they can use to help pay for summer camp.

Troop 919 Notes 3-15-2010
Bear Island – If you are going on this weekend’s Bear Island canoe trip it’s important for you to be at Tuesday’s Troop meeting. We have two important activities planned for Tuesday: Menu Planning and Safety Afloat Instruction.
We will be meeting at the Scout Hut at 5 p.m. on Friday for the trip down East. The plans are to overnight at the Camp Boddie Boy Scout camp near Greenville on Friday and head to Hammock’s Beach State park on Saturday morning.
We will be making several fast food stops on this trip and Scouts should bring enough money to purchase their own food at these stops. We will be stopping around Raleigh for dinner on Friday evening, stopping for a combo breakfast lunch on the way to Bear Island on Saturday and stopping on the way home on Sunday.
New Scouts Parents Orientation - Welcome new Scout families!
Troop 919 will hold a new Scout parent's Orientation at the Scout hut during this Tuesday's meeting at the Scout Hut. The Scouts will join the Troop upstairs while the parents meet downstairs.
Council Banquet – The Old Hickory Council recognition banquet is scheduled for Friday evening, March 26 at the Grand Pavilion Ballroom at the Embassy Suites Hotel. The Council will be recognizing its Silver Beaver recipients, Eagle Scouts, and will be presenting other special awards at this banquet.
District Banquet – The Piedmont District recognition banquet will be help at New Hope Methodist Church on Thursday, April 8. See Steve Tucker to purchase a ticket.

Troop 919 Notes 3-10-2010 [Canoe Trip]
Bear Island Canoe Trip Update – The following Scouts and leaders have signed up for next weekend’s (March 19-21) Bear Island Canoe Trip. This will be a Friday-Sunday trip and we will have details on the Friday departure time at Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
We will be traveling to Camp Boddie to pick up canoes and camp overnight before heading to Hammock’s Beach State Park on Saturday morning.
Scouts: Lucas B., Andrew S., Avery C., Austin D., Noach B., Jeffrey S., Lyle G., Jonathan W., Bryce W. Alexander Z., Andy N., Ian B., Devlin B.
Adults: Bill Swart, Bill Brewer, Tim Lasley, Jay Wilhemli, Mike Warner, Jay Harmel, Richard DeHeck, Mac McCormick
Swim Checks – Swim checks for Scouts participating in this trip will on Thursday (March 11) at 7:30 p.m. at the Fulton Family YMCA on Hanes Mill Road. The YMCA fee for the swim checks is $5. If you are a Y member there is no fee. Be sure to bring your membership card.
Good news…this swim check will also serve as your summer camp swim check!
Canoe Practice – The on-the-water practice session for this trip will be held at Camp Raven Knob on Sunday (March 14). Meet at the Scout Hut at 1 p.m. on Sunday for the trip to Raven Knob. We will be returning from Raven Knob late afternoon and will call when we are on the way home.
OA March Workday – If you are an OA member, Saturday is March Workday at Camp Raven Knob.
It looks like the weather is going to be nice, so come on out to Raven Knob as Wahissa Lodge helps to wake Raven Knob from its long winter nap and get her ready for this year’s camping season.
Need another reason to come to CRK on Saturday? You will be receiving the first in this year’s series of Wahissa’s commeratitive BSA 100th Anniversary patches for attending this event.

Troop 919 Notes 3-8-2010
Hockey Game – The annual “Docs vs Cops” charity hockey game is Saturday, March 20. This game features the doctors of the Wake Forest Bowman Gray Medical Center skating against the Winston-Salem Police Department.
For the last several years Stan Gordon has arranged complimentary tickets to the game for our troop families and Stan has offered the same again this year.
If you and your family would like tickets to this game you need to let Stan know at Tuesday’s Troop meeting. If you are not going to be at Tuesday’s meeting for some reason, the final deadline to let Stan know that you would like complimentary tickets is Wednesday, March 10 at 8 p.m. You can also e-mail Stan with your request.
Bear Island Trip – The final sign-up for our Bear Island canoe trip will be at Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
The trip is next weekend (March 19-21) and there will be a one-the-water canoe practice this weekend. We will have more info on the practice at Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
Service Hours – If you are looking for some service hours you might consider volunteering to help at the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Winston-Salem on May 1.
Volunteers are needed on the day of the race beginning around 6:30 AM to help with parking, trash and site restoration. This would be an excellent opportunity for Scouts to earn Community Service hours and support a worthy cause all at the same time.

Friends of Scouting – If you have not turned in your Friends and Families of Scouting pledge card, please return it in a sealed envelope at Tuesday’s Troop meeting.
Re-Chartering – We still have a few families who have not paid their $15 BSA Re-Chartering fee. Please take care of this at Tuesday’s Troop meeting so our Troop can finalize its Re-Chartering process with the Council on time.
Summer Camp Registration – It’s also time for Scouts to register and pay their deposit for our week at Camp Raven Knob this summer. The initial deposit of $100 is due with registration.
Some important summer camp registration dates:
March 23 – Registration and $100 deposit due
April 6 – Merit Badge Selections due
May 11 – Final summer camp payment due (including program fees)
June 8 – Summer camp swim checks
The summer camp registration packet, including the list of merit badges available can easily be downloaded from the Troop website. Click on the 2010 Summer Camp registration packet link on the mail page (left hand side) of the website.
Please print a copy of the registration page and work with an assistant Scoutmaster to select your merit badges for summer camp.
