Troop 919 Notes 11-30-2010

REMINDER

All popcorn money is due at tonight's Troop meeting (November 30)

With the exception of Chocolate Lovers Packages

If you sold Chocolate Lovers Popcorn you are not required to turn in the money for that popcorn on Tuesday. You must turn in the money for all other popcorn you sold whether you have deliverd it or not. We hope you have completed all of your popcorn deliveries at this point!

Chocolate Lovers Popcorn Update

The Chocolate Lovers popcorn is scheduled to arrive this weekend. We will have more information at Tuesday's Troop meeting about the pickup of these packages and when the money is due for this popcorn.

 

 

Intro to Cold Weather Camping – Our next camping trip is the weekend of December 11-12. This trip is the primer for our annual January snow camping trip to West Virginia. To be eligible to attend the snow camping trip you must have qualified at an intro to cold weather camping trip.
 
Signups for this trip will be at tonight's Troop meeting.
 
Christmas Family - Troop 919 will be sponsoring a family of eight this Christmas in the Forsyth County’s Dept. of Social Services Relatives as Parents Program. Tracey Warner is coordinating the gifts in our Troop.

Troop 919 will be sponsoring a family of eight this Christmas in the Forsyth County’s Dept. of Social Services Relatives as Parents Program. Many thanks to Stan Gordon for arranging this project with DSS and to Tracey Warner for coordinating the gifts in our Troop.

Troop 919 Notes 11-22-2010

Court of Honor – Our November Court of Honor is Tuesday (tomorrow) at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United Methodist Church.
 
Be sure to invite your family to attend with you to help us celebrate the successes of our Scouts.
 
And don’t forget to bring your snacks and drinks for the fellowship time following the Court of Honor. Our youth leadership made the following assignments for snacks and drinks:
 
Drinks: Jackalopes and Ravens
Snacks: Rastas and Narwals
 
Popcorn Money Due – How are you popcorn deliveries going? Hopefully everyone has been successful at delivering their popcorn orders and collecting the money.
 
 

All popcorn money is due at our Troop meeting on November 30….that’s next week!

 
Christmas Family – Our Troop will once again be delivering Christmas packages to Foster Families for the Forsyth County Department of Social Services. The package delivery is set for December 18.
 
In addition to delivering packages, our Scouts will sponsor a family. We will have information on our family to be sponsored soon.
 
Thanks to Stan Gordon for coordinating this project again this year. Stan certainly could use some help. Any willing volunteers?
 
Intro to Cold Weather Camping – Our next camping trip is the weekend of December 11-12. This trip is the primer for our annual January snow camping trip to West Virginia. To be eligible to attend the snow camping trip you must have qualified at an intro to cold weather camping trip.
 
Signups for this trip will be at this week’s Court of Honor and final signups will be at next week’s Troop meeting on November 30.
 
Troop Christmas Party – Our annual Troop Christmas gathering and gift exchange will Tuesday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United Methodist Church. Scouts wishing to participate in the gift exchange must bring a wrapped Scouting or camping related gift. Gifts should not exceed $10.
 
This will also be night that our popcorn kernels will be distributing the popcorn sale prizes.
 
We will also ask our Scouting families to bring refreshments to our Christmas meeting.

Troop 919 Notes 11-14-2010

A big thanks to all who helped with the popcorn pick-up and distribution
on Friday and those who represented Troop 919 in the Winston-Salem Veteran’s Day parade.
 
 
Communications Merit Badge – The following Scouts whom have been working on the Communications Merit Badge should plan to meet Senior Patrol Leader Noah B. at the Scout Hut at 7 p.m. on Tuesday to help plan the Court of Honor program.
 
Scouts: Andy N., Josh J., Raymond F., Alexander Z., Bryce W., Michael B., Chris W. and  Will H.
 
Orienteering Camping Trip – Our orienteering camping trip is this weekend at Camp Raven Knob. We are also inviting some WeBeLoS to join us for the weekend.
 
We will meet at the Scout Hut at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. We will return on Sunday morning. The WeBeLoS and their leaders will join us on Saturday.

Board of Review – The Troop Committee will be available on Thursday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Scout Hit to conduct your Board of Review for Rank Advancement.
 
Remember to schedule your Scoutmaster Conference prior to your Board of Review.
 
PLC – The next Patrol Leaders Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Scout Hut.

Troop 919 Message

Popcorn Pick-Up is Friday

 
It’s time for Phase II of our annual popcorn sale….delivering your orders AND collecting the money!
 
The Troop popcorn pick-up will Friday, Nov. 12 between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Dept. on Yadkinville Road. Please be prompt!
 
If you are available in the afternoon to help with the pick-up and sorting, please give Scott Gryder a call.
 
 

Chocolate Lovers Collection News

 
Old Hickory Council has been notified by Trails End that our Chocolate Lovers Collection orders will not be available on Friday. This popcorn will be delivered in early December.
 
Trail's End apologizes for this inconvenience, and understands it will cause additional work for our Troop and says it was unavoidable.
 
Let's remember that the best laid plans sometimes come with difficulties such as this, and all you can do is deal with the situation you're presented with the best humor you can muster.  A Scout is Cheerful and Helpful and Friendly……
 
We will let everyone know when the Chocolate Lovers Collections orders are available.

Troop 919 Notes 11-7-2010

Veteran’s Day Parade – We are looking for additional Scouts to represent Troop 919 in the Winston-Salem veteran’s Day parade. The parade is scheduled for downtown Winston-Salem on Saturday morning, November 13.
 
Also looking for adult leaders to head up this trip.

Orienteering Camping Trip – Our November camping trip will be an orienteering camping trip at Raven Knob the weekend of November 19-21. We are also inviting some WeBeLoS to join us for the weekend.
 
We will depart on Friday evening (late afternoon) and return on Sunday morning. The WeBeLoS and their leaders will join us on Saturday.

Northern Tier Expedition – Since 1923, Scouts have been voyaging into the great north wilderness to seek adventure. Eagles soaring overhead, walleye swimming in the depths of pristine lakes, meeting a moose on the portage trail. These are the experiences that Scouts get in Canada and the north woods of the United States.  Northern Tier High Adventure Program is the ONLY outfitter in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Canada charged by the Boy Scouts of America to deliver the Scouting program to Scouts and Leaders adventuring into North Americas Canoe Country.
 
Troop 919 is considering putting together a trek to the BSA’s Northern Tier High Adventure base in 2011 and we will be discussing the possibility of this Troop at our November Court of Honor.
 
The minimum requirements for Scouts to participate in this program is to be 13 years old by December 31, 2011, be classified as a swimmer by BSA standards and meet (not exceed) the Northern Tier height/weight standards.

Troop 919 Notes 11-2-2010

Troop 919 Top Popcorn Salesman
 
The final tally is in and Josh is our Troop’s top seller with more than $2200 in sales!
Among the prizes Josh will be receiving will be:
·         A pair of tickets to Saturday’s Wake Forest football game vs. Boston College, including a box lunch and hanging out in the special Scouting Wake Forest tailgate. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
·         The opportunity to eat with the Troop 919 adult leaders and Senior Patrol Leaders on all camping trips in 2011.
·         A very nice cash contribution to his Troop 919 Scout Account
·         And a few other prizes.

Would you and your family also like to attend Saturday’s Wake Forsest vs. Boston College football game and tailgate? Tickets can be purchased through the Wake Forest ticket office for the discounted Scout rate of $20. The ticket package includes your game ticket, a box lunch and admission to the special Scouting Wake Forest tailgate.
To purchase tickets , call Jon (758-4033)  or Blake (758-4036) in the Wake Forest ticket office  and they'll get things worked out for you.
It would be best to order tickets as a group so everyone can be seated together. Let me know tonight if you are available to coordinate this.
Camporee News – Congratulations to our Rasta and Raven patrols for their winning performances at this past weekend’s Piedmont District Camporee. The Rasta Patrol also won third place overall at the Camporee. Way to go guys!
And a big thank you to the Troop 919 Scouts who put together Saturday night’s campfire program at the Camporee. Nice job!
Many of our adults also led the Camporee activities. Thanks to you for your continued dedication to our Troop and Scouting.
Order of the Arrow News – Wahissa Lodge is going to be busy the next few weeks. If you are an OA member, hopefully you will be able to make room in your calendar for these activities. Many of our Troop 919 Scouts and adults hold key leadership positions in the OA and would appreciate our Troop’s support. Here are a few upcoming activities:
Annual Banquet – Wahissa’s Annual banquet is Saturday (Nov. 6) at 6:00 p.m. at Ardmore Baptist Church. The annual banquet highlights the OA’s accomplishments in 2010, installs its officers for 2011 and the feature of the evening is the annual slide show. After the banquet many Arrowmen also gather at Krispy Kreme on Stratford to keep the celebration going!
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 at the Scout Office on Silas Creek Parkway through Thursday or for $15 at the door on Saturday.
All Arrowmen, their families and guests are invited and encouraged to attend.
NLS Seminar - Several of our Troop 919 Arrowmen will be attending the OA’s National Leadership Summit in Radford, VA this weekend. Congratulations on your continued commitment to servant leadership, the Order and developing your leadership skills and potential.
Conclave Workday – The next 2011 Conclave workday is Saturday. November 13. This is a single day event, includes lunch and a special Conclave Workday patch…and it’s free! If you are not busy, come to Raven Knob to help Wahissa get camp ready for next year’s Conclave.
Christmas Trees – Wahissa Lodge is selling beautiful fresh cut North Carolina Frazier Fir Christmas trees again this year.
This year’s sale features an option to pre-purchase your tree. All Arrowmen who pre-purchase a tree will also receive an special edition Order of the Arrow Christmas Tree ornament. To pre-purchase your tree click on the Christmas Tree link on the Old Hickory Council websites.
Table top trees and wreaths have been added to this year’s selection
The Wahissa Lodge tree lot is located at the Scout Office and will be open Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December for tree pick-up and tree sales.

Troop 919 Popcorn Dealdine Reminder

Popcorn Reminder
 
Tonight (Monday 11/1/10) is the final night to turn in your popcorn orders.
 
Mr. Gryder will be at the Scout Hut at 7 p.m. this evening to accept your orders.
 
Thanks for your hard work in selling Scout popcorn this year. We depend heavily on the proceeds from the popcorn sale to operate our Troop, maintain our equipment and Scout Hut and to provide the Scouting outdoor program.
 
If you have friends and relatives whom are out of town, they can support our Troop by purchasing popcorn online. See Mr. Gryder or Mrs. Neely for details.
 
And a big Thank You to Mr. Gryder and Mrs. Neely for their help in organizing this year’s popcorn sale.
