Troop 919 Notes 12-6-2010

Cold Weather Camping Intro – Menu planning for this weekend’s Cold Weather Camping Intro trip will be at Tuesday night’s Troop meeting.

We will meet at the Scout Hut at 9 a.m. Saturday morning to depart for the trip and will return prior to lunch on Sunday.

This is a “car camping” trip, so we’ll have a little extra room to take along a few extra things that you might need on a cold weather trip. When you start packing for this trip, think back to the cold weather camping programs and pack accordingly!

If you are going on this weekend’s trip you need to be in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting.

The following Scouts have signed up for the trip:

Caleb W., Nick M., Thomas L., Riley B., Will H., Andy N., Tyler W., Michael B., Raymond F., Avery C., Kegan W., Noah B., Jarod W., Patrick B., Adam H. and Daniel P.

Christmas Family – Thanks to those families who have already contacted Mrs. Warner to select a Christmas gift for the family our troop is sponsoring this year. If you haven’t made your selection, please give Traci Warner a call at 336-499-2525 or drop her an e-mail at Peacebound4ever@aol.com . A copy of the family wish list is attached.

Christmas Trees – The order of the Arrow has extended its Christmas tree sale for one more weekend. Seems like last weekend’s snow kept a few people at home.

The OA tree lot is located behind the Scout office on Silas Creek Parkway and will be open on Saturday (9 am – 6 pm) and Sunday (1 pm-6pm). The trees are premium quality North Carolina Frazier Fir trees and were grown in Laurel Springs, NC. You can also stop by the Scout office during the week to make your purchase but you will have to load the tree yourself. The OA Scouts are only there during the weekend to help as they are in school.

For those who have permanent trees in their homes, there are a few handmade wreaths also available.

The proceeds from this Christmas tree sale will be dedicated to the building of the new Wesley K. Morgan Maintenance Facility at Camp Raven Knob.

Christmas Meeting – Our final Troop meeting of 2010 will be our Troop Christmas party on Tuesday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United Methodist Church. To participate in the Scout gift exchange you must bring a wrapped Scouting or camping related gift. Do not exceed $10 when purchasing your gift.

Our adult Troop leaders will also have a gift exchange and should limit their purchases to $25.

Everyone be sure to bring your favorite Christmas drink or snack to this meeting.

Gift Delivery – We will be delivering Christmas Gifts for the Department of Social Services on Saturday, December 18. We will meet at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Dept. at 9:30 a.m.  Feel free to bring along family members to help with your deliveries. It’s another great way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Northern Tier – Our Troop is putting together a Northern Tier expedition in 2011 and we’ll have some information on this trip at our Christmas meeting on December 14. Be sure to bring your parents to this meeting in you think you might be interested in this trip.

Snow Camping – Our snow camping trip to West Virginia will be January 15-17. To participate in this trip, a Scout must have been on a previous snow camping trip or go on this month’s cold weather camping intro trip.
