Court of Honor – Our Winter Court of Honor is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Brookstown United Methodist Church.
Don’t forget to bring snacks and drinks for the fellowship time following the COH!!!
Tuesday’s Court of Honor will also include our Troop’s annual Friends of Scouting presentation. Each year our Troop families are provided the opportunity to help support the administrative side of the local Scouting program with a pledge to the Old Hickory Council’s Friends of Scouting program. The $15 national registration each of us pays every year is just the “tip of the Scouting iceberg.” In other words, it takes a lot more to keep Scouting going locally. Our commitment to the Friends of Scouting program helps to keep the cost of Scouting reasonable, provides administrative support, training for adult volunteers and much more.
Summer Camp –If you have not already paid your $100 Summer Camp deposit, Tuesday night would be a good time to do so. Summer Camp deposits are now PAST due!
Medical Forms – The BSA requires that we have a current annual health and medical record form on file for each Scout and leader. It is now time for each Troop 919 Scout and Leader to have their medical form updated. The BSA Health and Medical Form can be downloaded here.
If you have a planned physical later this spring, please let us know so we can make a note of it and maybe not bug you so much on this subject. As you might imagine, collecting updated medical forms is one of the more challenging jobs the Troop leadership takes on each year.
Troop Elections – Troop elections will be held next week (Tuesday, March 13). A couple things to remember: Scouts planning to run for a Troop Leadership position must schedule a Scoutmaster conference prior to election night. If you are a Life Scout and working towards your Eagle Scout rank, don’t forget that you are required to serve in a Troop leadership position as a Life Scout to qualify for the Eagle Scout rank.
Summit Bechtel Reserve – The Old Hickory Council is one of only 40 councils in the country being offered the opportunity to send a Troop to the Summit Bechtel Reserve to help “shake down” the facility for the 2013 National Jamboree. Scouts and leaders will be assisting in testing and preparing the Reserve’s infrastructure as the SBR prepares for its first Jambo. The cost is $200 per Scout and really is a “once in a lifetime” opportunity. This is the only time such a “shakedown” is planned for the new national facility.
The Troop will be departing from the Old Hickory Council on Friday July and returning on Tuesday, July 17, which makes it essentially a long weekend campout.
The timing of this event falls when our Troop is attending summer camp at Raven Knob. We have spoken with Keith Bobbitt, CRK camp director, and if a Scout wants to participate in the SBR shakedown and also attend summer camp with our Troop, Keith and his staff have committed to helping the Scout to “get caught up” on the summer camp merit badges when he arrives back in camp on Tuesday evening. In other words, there is a way to do both!!
If you would like to consider the Summit activity, let us know and we will get you an application.
2013 Philmont Crew – If you are part of the 2013 Philmont Trek your initial deposit is due soon. Please make arrangements with Tim Lasley or Mike Warner.
